Similar to advertising and marketing, public relations focuses on message creation and image shaping. Majority of the time you are working to create a positive image and reputation for your client. Clients can vary from an individual person, to a company or even times the government. You daily tasks may involve consumer relations between a company and their patrons, relations between employees and upper levels of management or involve informing the public as a press secretary would.
The increase in interest had lead many colleges and institutions of higher learning to offer specific courses and degrees for public relations. However there has been some debate over if a specific degree in this field is truly necessary. Some believe that a broader understanding of communications and media studies is better and that a specialization which can be too narrowing.

Obviously you must be well versed in your prominent language and have strong reading and writing comprehension. Other than that you’ll need to demonstrate great communication skills through various mediums such as in person, over the phone or in print. You must also be highly organized and efficient with your time as you will often be scheduling meetings, speaking engagements and events for multiple clients. It is best to be knowledgeable about current events and pop culture to always know what type of story will be relevant and how to deliver your message properly.
