Shockware for neuromas
September 28th, 2009 . by adminShockwave therapy is used in a number of conditions to treat chronic pain. It is most widely used to treated heel pain that does not respond to other more conservative means. It is also used in tennis elbow and some shoulder conditions. Recently a publication appeared advocating the use for shockware for neuromas. They published a randomised controlled trial to support the claim. However, the authors did what is called a within subjects comparison of the intervention group and the control group and claimed a significant difference. However, that is not how you analyse a randomised controlled trial. They should be analysed using a between groups comparison. When done in this study, they actually proved that shockwave does not work for neuromas – the opposite of their claims.
