You can motivate them to do good at school by promising a trip to the toy store at the end of the week. It is a reward but also could be a great gift for them. You could surprise them by wrapping a mystery item and give it to them after they have done great on a test. A day at the park with their friends is also a nice treat. You could treat to them to some ice cream too. Gifts can be motivators for anyone. At the workplace, gifts are given for anniversary celebrations with the company. After so many years of service, the employee is rewarding with choosing their own gift. The more years of service, the more expensive or larger the item. Hard work is worth recognition.
