Costly Maternity Insurance Mistakes
October 8th, 2011 . by adminIt may not have been a good idea to buy a health insurance policy without doing more research. I bought a cheap personal medical insurance policy and now I’m paying for it.
My wife is carrying our child now. It should be a beautiful time. It should be a time where music plays in our heads along with visions of the perfect baby she is going to give to the world.
But it’s not. It is a time where we are scrambling to pay for the doctor visits and where we are worried incessantly about the medical bills that we will incur when she goes into the hospital.
We’re going to have to pay for the maternity ward out of our pockets in addition to all of the other costs that come when you have a baby. The crib, the diapers the everything.
We have learned about Pennsylvania pregnancy insurance in the meantime, but it was too late when we finally started doing our homework. Unfortunately these policies aren’t available after you get pregnant.
I understand why, but it doesn’t help us at all. I’ve tapped into my savings. I’ve borrowed from my brothers, and her brothers and sisters. We’ll never be able to pay it all back.
When you think about preexisting conditions, you usually think about cancer or diabetes. At least that is what I think about. I never thought that pregnancy would be treated that way.
Now we’re going to be stuck holding the bag for eight thousand dollars or more. I could kick myself.
