Spain requires all non residents that are conducting certain business transactions, going to school, or even collecting an inheritance to have an NIE number.  It’s the country’s way of identifying these non residents.  It’s a very long (sometimes months) process and may require that you travel to Spain to apply and again to pick it up.  That can get really expensive.  However, there are ways around this .  If you know What Is An NIE Number and how you can get through the loopholes, you may not have to travel after all.  That can save you a lot of time and money.
