Foundation Start for Families of Victims of Violent Crimes
October 8th, 2011 . by adminAfter a family in Florida lost their daughter when she was abducted from their home at the young age of six, the family realized that the counseling services offered to families who had been victim of violent crimes were insufficient. Although it has been five years since the disappearance of the young girl, the family is still struggling to cope with the loss of their daughter after she was found beaten and raped. Members of her family have said that they would help so no other child has to go through what their little girl did and are frightened that other families might experience the same thing.
The family has chosen to set up a foundation to raise funds for families who have had to deal with issues like the loss of a child due to a violent crime. A grieving family is often given around a thousand dollars to help with Douglaston NY counseling, but many feel this amount is not sufficient and that families need more help after the death of a child. The family and their new foundation hope that they will be able to offer additional money for counseling above and beyond the thousand dollars offered by the state.
The young girl’s murder was caught and convicted of the crime and instead of receiving the death penalty was allowed to plead guilty and obtain a life sentence in prison. Detectives, however, believe that there are other people that might have been involved with the girl’s death and so the search continues.
